HOLLYWOULD Creative Director Holly Dunlap attended Parsons School of Design in Paris where she studied fashion design, and upon graduation landed her dream job working for Christian Lacroix Haute Couture. There she was able to learn print design and embroidery techniques from the masters, and was surrounded by the highest level of luxury craftsmen in the world.
Next, Holly moved to London to work for her long-time fashion idol, Vivienne Westwood, who taught her that there are no rules in fashion; and from London to Los Angeles, where she worked alongside renowned photographer Peggy Sirota as a stylist for celebrity, editorial, and commercial photo shoots. While in LA, Holly also kept up her tailoring and design skills by making custom made-to-measure men’s suits for private celebrity clients.
After a year in LA, Holly was tapped for the position of Head Designer at iconic Palm Beach fashion brand Lilly Pulitzer. Having grown up in head-to-toe Lilly, Holly jumped at the chance to revitalize the line, and began by revamping the entire line of Lilly apparel and creating scores of now-classic Lilly prints. Her modern, preppy designs made Lilly Pulitzer a household name once again and, after a few years at Lilly, Holly felt she was ready to start her own brand.
Holly chose the name “HOLLYWOULD” because she knew her main source of inspiration would come from the legendary images of Hollywood glamour. Though Holly’s experience was in print & apparel design, her lifelong obsession with shoes made them the obvious choice for the start of her own label. The first collection of HOLLYWOULD shoes hit Bergdorf Goodman in Spring of 2000, and Holly later added a full range of flirty dresses and colorful handbags to complete the HOLLYWOULD look.
In 2006 the HOLLYWOULD brand was acquired by Kellwood Corporation, which is now a division of Sun Capital Partners.
